Google sitemaps are a good way to make sure Google indexes all your pages. It also lets them know when you have made changes to your site.

In the past, creating sitemaps and uploading them has been cumbersome. You usually searched for a website that made them based on your domain. But then it was often necessary to edit what you received because it contained pages that shouldn’t be there. I’ve seen the programs list a banner ad as if it were a separate page to my site.

Arne Brachhold has solved that problem on his site. You can now download a plug-in that will generate sitemaps for Google. Not only does the program create the XML file, it also compresses it with Gzip and pings Google that your sitemap is ready for them to download. You can also add pages outside of WordPress if your blog is hosted on your website.
